The Sunset Script is the fifth and final poetry book from The MINDS poetry book series. If I were to describe what this book is about in succinct terms, I would say this book is about coming to the end of a journey. It is a book that is meant to address the topic of closure whether it is death, hitting rock-bottom or simply completing a chapter in the journey of life.
The poems in this book aren't meant to be vague. The topics I address in these poems are very real and very prevalent in many people's lives. There is no way to soften the effects depression, violent crime, suicide, drug and alcohol abuse and sexual abuse have on an individual or their loved ones. Admittedly, the poems in this book may be quite difficult to read. Some of the poems are tales of personal anguish. Other poems stem from motivation of issues that plague society. No group regardless of their cultural, ethnic or economic background is immune to these issues.
Of course, there must also be an end to every story. Sometimes the end isn't clearly defined or the ending is unhappy and doesn't bring much closure to the issue. Still, every story must be completed. For me, The Sunset Script brings the likely end to my days of writing poetry. Before The Midnight Manifesto, I had never written a poem a day in my life. The Midnight Manifesto was a challenge to myself to see if I believed I had what it takes to undertake a major project at one of the lowest points in my life, and be able to see the project all the way through without being ashamed of the end result. That one little poetry book became five little poetry books and it took me and anyone who chooses to read them down memory lane and into the deepest, darkest, manic and most troubling times in my life. I can say that I am not ashamed of what I have shared over the course of nearly 150 poems. It is a project that I began nearly 2 years ago and it is a project that I am happy to have completed.
So while this is the end of this book series, my days as an author are only just beginning. I will continue to devote my time to finishing and publishing my fiction writing and learning to become a better writer and artist.
